The Gemsspitze 3,114 m is a simple 3000er that is easily accessible from the Jamtal hut with about 1000 m of altitude gain. Knowledge of glacier travel should be present. Short climbing section of difficulty grade I in the summit area of the Gemsspitze. The summit surprises with great views of the Große Piz Buin, the Jamspitze peaks, the Dreiländerspitze, and the Fluchtkogel.

    Author’s recommendation

In the July months, when the old snow from the winter months is still present, an ascent is highly recommended.

    Safety information

The increasing snow melt makes the ascent to the Gemsspitze increasingly difficult. An ideal ascent is therefore advantageous in the early July months.

    Roadbook

From the Jamtal hut in a southern direction along the glacier moraine to the Rußkopf. We climb the Rußkopf in a wide left curve and reach the summit from the south. Now it continues upwards in a southeast direction until we reach the glacier. Then continue up the orographic right part of the Jamtalferner towards the Gemsscharte. Just below the notch, we traverse in a long right curve up to the point at 3,093 m (visible on the AV map no. 26 Silvretta group). Between the summit and the previously described point, we reach a flat plateau. Now turn southwards and climb up on trail traces to the ridge of the Gemsspitze (a short climbing section in the first difficulty grade). Once at the top, surefootedness is required, we traverse westwards in a few minutes easily to the summit of the Gemsspitze at 3,114 m. Return via the ascent route to the Jamtal hut.
