After a moderately difficult ascent over the crevassed Chalausferner, an alpine finale follows to the summit of the Chalausköpfe, where carrying an ice axe and possibly crampons in your gear can be helpful if needed. From the turnoff to the Augstenberg, it becomes lonely on the summit!

Often tracked up to 2,900 m to the Augstenberg, caution in the upper area due to increased crevasse and avalanche danger!Roadbook
From the Jamtal hut, go directly up the steep north slope to the Steinmännli (2,353 m), then cross the west slope a bit more gently and keep left towards the foot of the Chalausferner. At the latest at 2,900 m, the path turns right and becomes a narrow gully that gets progressively steeper. You should also travel roped on the crevasse zone! After a few switchbacks, you need to take off your skis, stow the rope, and proceed on foot or with easy climbing over the tricky gully into the notch (beware of cornices!) and from there the last few meters with skis on to the ski depot. The 30 m high steep face to the exposed summit is tackled with an ice axe and, in hard conditions, with crampons.
Back to the ski depot, the descent is westward on beautiful, wide slopes on the crevasse-sparse Jamtalferner. At 2,700 m you must decide whether to take the steep NW slope to the right next to the Russkopf, or continue enjoying the descent along the Jamtalferner to the Jamtal hut on the left.
