Beautiful round route with impressive ridge crossing towards Rußkopf and relatively easy glacier crossing up to the Hintere Jamspitze.
From there, the breathtaking view of countless 3000-meter peaks of the Silvretta group shines.
The unmarked descent over the glacier moraine represents a certain challenge due to necessary crossings of several streams.

Glacier equipment required, maintain sufficient distance from the walls of Gamsspitze (risk of falling rocks), significant crevasse in the upper area,
difficult orientation during descent over the glacier moraine to the lower Jamtalferner, bring enough fluids due to the route length
Roadbook
Directly in front of the Jamtalhütte, we ascend gently towards Rußkopf. After crossing streams twice, we follow the ridge just below Rußkopf. Then we follow the path to the left onto the east side of Rußkopf and finally reach a small saddle. From there, it is possible to climb the summit of Rußkopf (2693m) in a few minutes. From the saddle, we follow the path, marked only by cairns, gently downhill to the glacier edge. This can be easily climbed. From here, glacier equipment is put on.
We then cross the glacier with a slight ascent towards Urezzasjoch, maintaining sufficient distance from the rock walls of Gamsspitze due to the risk of falling rocks. The glacier steepness increases. About 200 meters before the ridge, we branch off to the right and pass some rock formations. We bypass the noticeable crevasse behind on the left and then follow the glacier over a steeper slope traverse towards Jamjoch. There, ropes and backpacks can usually be left. After another 15 minutes, we reach the summit of the Hintere Jamspitze (3156 m) over rocks and scree. From there, there is a great view including Piz Buin, Dreiländerspitze, Vordere Jamspitze, and Austenberg. We could also spot the Jamtalhütte in the distance.
The descent can basically be done the same way as the ascent.
However, we chose the alternative via the Jamtalferner spur west of Rußkopf. We stayed slightly west of the ascent route on the glacier and then reached a glacier moraine at the end of the glacier (left of a rock formation on the glacier). There, we took off the glacier equipment and followed the ridge of the moraine, repeatedly crossing streams, to the lower part of the Jamtalferner. This short section is also unmarked. We then follow the lower Jamtalferner (due to flatness, traversing is possible without crampons) almost to its end and leave the glacier to the right towards a conspicuous cairn. We then follow the route from cairn to cairn on the right side of the glacier stream over a short flat area. From there, we reach a marked path again (this is the glacier route from Jamtalhütte to Wiesbadener Hütte) and follow it, ascending slightly to the junction with the ascent path. We then descend along this path back to the Jamtalhütte.
