Energy Management
The total elevation gain of 280 m on the whole route is not at all demanding. There are two more intense sections: first 80 m over 1 km, then 40 m over 330 m steady climbs.
Recommended Period
Can be completed at any time of day. Two-thirds of the route is shaded because it leads through forest – and not merely shrubbery but ancient forest rich in big game.
Our trail running column is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary’s most successful active trail runner.

Detailed Route Description
Starting from the village center opposite the bus stop, at the event hall, we go down Vár Street. After a left turn at the end of the street, we reach Kinizsi Castle, which we pass, then turn onto the K trail. We arrive at the cemetery, where we turn right towards the ruins of the Pauline monastery, now on a dirt road. The trail descends and then climbs on a rocky section to the ruins when at a sign board we turn left. The K trail turns right just before the ruins, but those unfamiliar might want to take a short detour to the former St. Michael Pauline monastery, just about 200 m round-trip.
From the ruins, we run on a comfortable forest path continuing on the K trail. Exiting the forest we turn right onto the meadow and start a gentle descent on the grassy dirt road. The descent isn’t steep but rocky, so run carefully. At the bottom, we turn left and enter dense forest through a naturally shaped, almost fairy-tale gate, still on the K trail but now on a narrow, comfortable single-track path. From here we follow the edge of the old beech forest along the Vázsonyi-Séd creek. At one point, a 50 m detour to the left leads to the ruins of the small 13th-century St. Helena church of Tálod. Continuing, the landscape opens to the right. Where we reach forest opposite us, turning left we run on the narrow Tálodi meadow between two forests, climbing gently still on the K trail. At the upper end of the meadow, we turn right onto the Z trail.
We run on a straight, narrow clearing and now climb more steeply on rocky forest paths at times. Staying on the Z trail, we turn left, then follow another straight section of trail under tall, large trees (oak, beech, hornbeam). It’s relatively flat forest trail, then after crossing a small valley, a slight descent and a strong but brief climb follows. The forest thins on the right, and we reach a clearing where turning left we cross on an unmarked path (about 300 m) to the K trail. Arriving at the K trail we turn left and descend gently along the Viszent Valley. Soon after, we reach the ruins of the Pauline monastery in Tálod and the Kinizsi spring, and for them we leave the K trail turning left for about 150 m. Returning to the trail soon after, we reach a junction and close the southern loop of the route.
At the junction, turning right towards the rest and firewood area seen at the clearing, we head onto the Z trail. Behind the resting place, we cross the stream on the right, turn left and continue on the Z trail. After a right turn, a steep climb begins, then halfway up, following the Z trail we turn right and then climb more gently. Coming out of the woods a huge meadow opens ahead, opposite a long shrub strip, along whose right side we run continuing on the Z trail as far as the far end of the meadow. There we leave the trail turning right onto an unmarked path and run up to the ruins of St. Jacob’s church and the old, atmospheric Nemesleányfalva cemetery on the hilltop, enclosed on all sides. At the lower part of the cemetery there is a blue spring where we can refresh, then on a single-track path starting here, we return to the Z trail and follow it down into Nemesleányfalva. Arriving at the village, we run between two stone walls towards the church. The Z trail turns right at the church, but we continue straight on the left side of the church, then leaving the meadow on a diagonal path to the left, crossing it to the solar panels, then running along the fence we reach the football field and Sport Street. Here we go through the gate left, run along the football field leading to Óvoda Street, then turning right to the main road, Petőfi Sándor Street, which we follow turning left. From this right turn the street is named Kinizsi Pál, which we follow back to the village center.
