A historic market path used by the villagers of Ramberg and Dernbach to offer their goods at the market in Landau.
In Ramberg, the market path starts in the town center directly opposite the "Goldene Lamm". Walking briefly southwards, until the street "Marktweg" turns left, the route leads uphill into the forest to the Landauer Hut at Zimmerplatz. In Dernbach, the market path begins at the hiking parking lot at the town exit towards Ramberg. Here the market path goes to the Lourdes Grotto, with a magnificent view of Trifels Castle. Continuing straight, the market path goes uphill to the Landauer Hut. A wide path leads downhill into the Hainbach valley to Frankweiler. From the wine village Frankweiler, it passes through Berbornstraße, Dorfbornstraße, and the vineyards further to Godramstein. Past the churches in the Landau city district, the path crosses the fields and comes directly to the little stream "Queich." Following the creek downstream, you reach Landau’s allotment gardens at Priensitzweg. Crossing Schillerpark, the A 44, and Westring, you arrive at the market square of Landau.

General information:
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches drop afterwards. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in places. You should expect such path impairments when hiking. If you find certain path sections impassable, you should bypass them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.

Roadbook
For today's hiker it is a pleasure, but for the heavily laden farmers on their way to the weekly market in Landau, it certainly was not. In 1801, Ramberg is explicitly mentioned as a village whose inhabitants were represented at this market.
The men carried the goods on their backs, the girls and women in baskets on their heads. Besides the usual agricultural products, which were rather sparse in the communities of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate Forest due to topography and mostly grown for personal use, the people of Dernbach were known for cherries and cherry brandy, while those from Ramberg were known for brushes and brooms.
In Landau, a traditional market still takes place every Tuesday and Saturday today.
Until the construction of the railway from Landau via Albersweiler to Zweibrücken in 1873 and the introduction of the postal bus, the route was on foot. In addition to market visitors, the route was also used by high school students.
In Ramberg, the market path starts in the town center right next to the Sparkasse. Heading south, you follow the main street for a few meters until the street "Marktweg" turns left. Through Marktweg, you ascend into the forest and follow the markings to the Landauer Hut at Zimmerplatz.
In Dernbach, the market path begins at the hiking parking lot at the town exit towards Ramberg. At the parking lot, you take the path at the upper end and follow the market path to the Lourdes Grotto. Opposite the Lourdes Grotto towards the south, you have a magnificent view of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Palatinate Forest and of Trifels Castle. The market path continues straight up to the Landauer Hut.
At the Landauer Hut, you cross Zimmerplatz. The market path now leads down a wide path into the Hainbach valley to Frankweiler. In Frankweiler, following Berbornstraße and Dorfbornstraße, the path soon leads over vineyards to the village of Godramstein. We pass the Protestant and Catholic churches in the Landau city district and shortly thereafter reach the little stream "Queich" across the fields. Following the creek downstream along the riding meadows, you reach Landau’s allotment gardens at Priesnitzweg. Crossing the Schillerpark, the A 44 and Westring, the hiker arrives at the market square in front of Landau town hall.
