Especially on very hot days, the 'cold shower' offers wonderful cooling. The forest shower in Gleisweiler is proven to be the only remaining facility of its kind in Germany. The water temperature ranges between 8 and 12 °C. On hot summer days, there is a lively activity by brave "cold showerers.” With changing rooms and benches all around, the romantic Hainbachtal invites you to linger.
In 1848, the doctor Dr. Ludwig Schneider built the forest shower in Hainbachtal. He had previously established a cold water healing institution in Bad Gleisweiler. For the patients of his clinic, the treatments "Douche,” "Sturzbad,” and "Wellenbad” were practiced in Hainbachtal. At some point, the facility fell into oblivion. Only by chance was the water supply, hewn from sandstone, rediscovered in the summer of 1990 and uncovered over the years by volunteers.
