Over 2,000 years ago, the highest mountain in the Palatinate was a busy place: market days, crafts, and trade shaped an early city whose extent is hardly imaginable today. At that time, several thousand people lived on the Donnersberg. Until a few decades ago, the remains of this city were hidden. Thanks to archaeological research and excavations, much has become visible today.
On the approximately 5-kilometer-long circular route, guests immerse themselves in the mysterious world of the Celts. Numerous stations with information boards present the technology, construction, and living conditions of the early Donnersberg inhabitants.

KeltenhütteSafety information
Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Particularly in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain sections impassable, you should bypass them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce on this platform all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies. Nonetheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the signs for your own safety.

Equipment
For our hiking routes, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
- Sturdy footwear
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Sun and rain protection
- A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always places to eat or shop, or they may be closed.
- Although the paths are very well marked throughout, it is recommended for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map so that, for example, in case of a thunderstorm or emergency, you can quickly find a safe area.
