This stage takes you out of Riga along the Daugava embankment, through the untame area of suburban vegetable gardens, past an old airfield and industrial construction sites to the satellite town of Riga – Salaspils. Today a town with characteristic Soviet and post-Soviet architecture, Salaspils was the oldest inhabited settlement (11 cent. BC) of Paleolithic age on the territory of Latvia, an important centre of ancient Livonians and the site of the first stone castle and Christian church built in 1186 by bishop Meinhard who is venerated as the apostle of Livonia (the medieval name of part of the present day Latvia and Estonia).
Gar Daugavas krastmalu ceļš ved prom no Rīgas centra, līkumojot cauri kolorītu mazdārziņu rajonam, garām vecam lidlaukam un industriālajai zonai. Etaps noslēdzas Salaspilī, mūsdienīgā Pierīgas apbūves rajonā ar padomju un pēcpadomju laikam raksturīgu arhitektūru. Vēsturiski Salaspils ir vecākā Senā akmens laikmeta apmetne Latvijas teritorijā (9. gadu tūkstotis p.m.ē), te 12.gs. bijusi ievērojama Daugavas lībiešu apmetne. Salaspils vēsture ir saistīta arī ar lībiešu kristianizācijas pirmsākumiem – te vēlākais bīskaps Meinards, godāts par Livonijas apustuli, 1186.gadā uzbūvēja mūra pili un baznīcu.
