This building, built in 1909, with two black cats over the years has become the unofficial symbol of Riga, having a few versions by the locals of what these cats mean.

This building, built in 1909, with two black cats over the years has become the unofficial symbol of Riga. Althoug the true meaning of these cats remains unclear, one version suggest that the building owner was denied entrance to the Great Guild so he had two scared cats with arched backs placed on his house. Different story says that the owner had problems getting permission to build the house from the town council so he placed angry looking statues of cats with tails towards the Riga Town Hall.
