Roadbook
From the parking lot or directly behind the cable car, you first head west slightly uphill and already follow the signs to the Fidere Pass hut (2070 m). From the junction at about 1315 m, you encounter the ridge of the Krumbach Höhenweg. From here you follow the ridge trail for about 4.1 km over partly good forest and mountain paths and short forest road sections until you reach the so-called Kühgund, a small plateau. Here too, you simply follow path 446, continuing to follow the signage and climb the last elevation meters over partly very scree-covered and briefly exposed terrain up to the Fidere Pass hut.
Directly behind the hut, the ascent to the crossing begins heading north. Initially still briefly over grass, it gets serious here, and wearing a helmet should be mandatory from this point onward.
The ascent now runs over partly very exposed short path sections with recurring climbing sections on grade I and II ridges. Route finding is still quite easy with much experience, and certain sections are marked with cairns. It is important not to ascend directly in the gully below the summit but rather cross the gully at the start and ascend on barely recognizable footprints slightly southeast of the summit onto the ridge. From here, follow the ridge, climbing up and down to the final summit ridge. Here, iron brackets with somewhat larger intervals are installed on a vertical slab to make the ascent easier. Without these brackets, the terrain clearly reaches grade III or III+. A belay ring is installed at the top.
After the summit, descend a few meters and follow cairns and footprints. Here too, occasional climbing sections on grade I and II ridges appear, and route finding can sometimes be a bit confusing but ultimately logical. Overhanging or passages above grade II ridge are not reached. Nevertheless, very exposed sections directly on the ridge must be mastered, as well as gullies in ascent and descent. Until the final ascent to the Hochgehrenspitze, the terrain trends gently downhill. At the ascent, an exaggeratedly thick steel cable is waiting as aid, which is not necessarily required on the way up, and depending on your mood, you can try yourself in grade II or III terrain. The last meters to the summit are again hiking terrain.
From the Hochgehrenspitze, the terrain relaxes somewhat, and mainly walking, the path now leads over to the Walser Hammerspitze and thus the end of the spectacular crossing.
From the Walser Hammerspitze, it goes down about 200 meters over scree terrain while staying along the ridge or ridge path. At the saddle, the path ascends gently again, and if desired, you can still take in the small but very crowded summit of the Kanzelwand (2059 m).
A short way back, you now follow the very wide path until shortly before the mountain station of the Kanzelwand cable car. Shortly before, turn right and go down the road to the reservoir and further down to the Gundsattel. Here turn right and follow the path further until it again becomes a forest road. Follow the forest road and keep to the signage down to the valley station of the Fellhornbahn. Getting lost is no longer possible here, and after about 8.4 km and 1150 meters of descent, you reach the parking lot again.
