GTA stages: Ceresole Reale - Susa
This section of the GTA (Grande Traversata delle Alpi, about 65 stages in total) is the continuation of the stages Aosta Valley - Ceresole Reale. The daily stages are strenuous with usually 8 hours of walking and 1000 - 1400 meters of altitude gain and require that you are confident on mountain paths due to the lack of emergency descents. Anyone who feels secure in the mountains will be rewarded with a lonely mountain world and very hospitable people.
The entire area has experienced a population decline for 100 years, which is still ongoing. What is bad for the inhabitants is a delight for the hiker and holidaymaker. Mass tourism and car noise are foreign words here. Instead, hospitality is highly valued in every guesthouse, and the food leaves nothing to be desired.
The main hiking season is from late June to early September.

Safety information
Some sections require sure-footedness, some parts good orientation. A smartphone with offline maps (OpenStreetMap, apps available in the respective app store) is a great help. In airplane mode, the smartphone easily lasts two days. A rain cover for the phone is mandatory. Especially in bad weather, you need the help of GPS.
Accommodations must be reserved in advance, at the latest the day before, otherwise you may quickly find yourself faced with full lodgings and have to continue hiking. In addition, small lodgings need to prepare dinner. A timely cancellation is therefore a matter of course.

Equipment
The route requires mountain boots and typical hut equipment. Rain jacket and pants (or equivalent) are a matter of course, especially since the long routes mostly cannot be interrupted in bad weather. In June and until early July, snowfields may still have to be expected in places. Trekking poles are certainly not a mistake. In summer, a sun hat must not be missing, as well as a drinking system or water bottle. No special alpine equipment is required.
