This long-distance cycle route runs along the Ammer, Ammersee, and Amper through the Alpine foothills of Upper Bavaria. The ride of about 200 kilometers is comfortably manageable in four to five days.
The route leads through the picture-book setting of the Bavarian Alpine foothills and begins at the Ammer sources in the Graswang valley, one of the most beautiful high valleys of the Bavarian Alps. Passing the Passion Play site Oberammergau, it slowly leaves the Alps along the Ammer and crosses the picturesque hilly landscape of Pfaffenwinkel with its numerous cultural monuments. Passing Ammersee lake, the bike path now winds along the Amper. Numerous sights and beautiful river landscapes await the cyclist on the last section past the towns of Fürstenfeldbruck and Dachau before the Amper flows into the Isar in Moosburg. It is advantageous in this direction that the path runs downstream, making cycling easier with a constant pleasant gradient. The reverse direction is also very worthwhile because you always have the destination, the mountains on the horizon, in sight.

Stage: Ammer Sources – Peiting
The bike path starts at the Ammer sources. They are located in the Ettaler Weidmoos nature reserve between Oberammergau and Ettal. From there, follow the bike path along the riverbank of the Ammer. After about 3 km you reach Oberammergau. Passing the cemetery and sports grounds, ride straight into the town center of Oberammergau. Besides the world-famous Passion Play Theatre, with the largest open-air stage in the world with a covered audience area, the location is also ideal for hiking and mountain tours in the Ammergau Alps, the largest nature reserve in Bavaria. The bike path runs past the Passion Play house, out of Oberammergau, through the tranquil Pulvermoos nature reserve to Unterammergau. At Moosweg, turn onto Hofstadelstraße and follow it towards the train station, where you cross the B23 and after 200 meters turn right onto Pürschlingstraße into Scherenauer Straße. Follow the bike path until you arrive in Scherenau. From here, continue to Altenau. Leaving Scherenau, turn left onto Alte Römerstraße and keep left until you turn into Wurmansauer Straße.
