Start and finish is the small „station“ in Rossbach/Wolfstein - continue eastward to the village center, then turn right and follow this street until a bridge on the right leads over the Rossbach to a gravel path.

You turn into the Schindelbachtal - the path goes slightly uphill - continue on the main path.

From here you have a wonderful view (Selberg with Rutsweiler, Königsberg with Wolfstein and its two ruins) - continue left.

Over the highest point, you enter the forest - formerly sand pit and quarry. The erratic boulders are still clearly visible.

In the forest a forest path goes left - possibility of a detour to the Heidenburg. The circuit leads from here straight downhill along a little used forest path. Wild orchids grow at the edge of the path.

You walk downhill past small streams and reach a road in the valley.

You hike back to the starting point along the Lautertal cycle path.

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for a considerate coexistence in nature

    - Always behave foresighted, friendly and considerate towards everyone you meet on the way.

    - Take care of nature, don’t destroy plants and always stay on the paths.

    - Think of a rubbish bag for the way and take your trash back home with you.

    - Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals thank you.

    - Observe all path closures for your own safety. Also on weekends.

    - Park only in designated parking areas. Leave space for emergency routes and agricultural machinery.

    - Please give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

    Safety information

    General notes:

Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may fall or branches may drop afterward. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Sure-footedness is required in some places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you believe certain path sections are impassable for you, you should bypass them.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting clubs on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where paths are closed and we may not have been informed. Should you unexpectedly encounter a path closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

    Tips and suggestions

Heidenburg hut open between Good Friday and Buß- und Bettag on Sundays and holidays from 9:00 a.m.; Heidenburg festival on Assumption Day, Indian steaks on Corpus Christi - please note the advance booking requirements on these days.

Make the loop via the Heidenburg. (With a stroller it is difficult here) It is somewhat steep in places, but worth it. The return path to the actual Ritschelbuschrunde takes you along trails past the Johannisbrunnen.

This route is ideal for a quiet Sunday and holiday walk with the whole family. There is a place to stop - via a small loop following the blue cross with white ends to the „Heidenburg hut“. The Heidenburg is a former Roman hill fort. A lookout tower offers a nice view towards Wolfstein.

Parallel to the Lautertal cycle path from Kreimbach to Stahlhausen, a field path runs between the Lauter and the tracks. This can be hiked as an alternative to the asphalt path. After rainy days, however, it is rather to be avoided as it is partly waterlogged. At the highest point of the hike, a wonderful view opens onto the Selberg and the Königsberg.

    Roadbook

Start and finish is the small „station“ in Rossbach/Wolfstein.

At first, the route leads along the lightly trafficked road to the left towards the village center.

You turn right into Oberdorf and follow this street until a bridge over the Rossbach leads to a gravel path on the right.

You turn into a small valley, the Schindelbach, with sheep and cattle pastures. The path ascends slightly and is easy to walk.

On your left, you see red beds. Observe the geo-information. Always stay on the main path until a noticeable junction.

From here you have a wonderful view of the Selberg with Rutsweiler and the Königsberg with Wolfstein and its two ruins Neuwolfstein and Altwolfstein. Follow this path to the left.

The path becomes level. The highest point of the route is reached at a bench. After about one hundred meters, you enter the forest. There used to be a sand pit and a quarry here. The erratic boulders are still clearly visible. Observe the geo-information.

In the forest, a forest path goes up to the left. Here you can make a detour to the Heidenburg. From here the route leads straight downhill along a little used forest path. Even in dry times, it is rather damp there. Wild orchids grow at the edge of the path.

Passing a high seat, you reach a gravel path that leads down from the Heidenburg. You walk down past small streams and reach a road in the valley.

On the right is the Lautertal cycle path, which leads back to the starting point via an asphalt path to Stahlhausen and a section of lightly trafficked street.

As an alternative to the cycle path, a field path parallel to the tracks can be used.

    Equipment

For our hiking routes we recommend the following equipment as standard:

    - Sturdy footwear

    - Weather-appropriate clothing

    - Sun and rain protection

    - Sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not everywhere places to stop or shops available or open.

    - Even though the paths are consistently very well marked, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable

hiking map so that you can quickly find a safe area, for example in a thunderstorm or emergency.

    - Hiking poles are recommended.
