Basically, this is a challenging route with a huge experience. A series of natural and historical sights await us if we accept the challenge. We can admire the Tapolca Basin from different peaks, an experience further enhanced by the elevation difference we have already covered. For a prepared hiker, this is the perfect challenge for one day, but if we want to go slower and also enjoy the local wines, our circular route is equally enjoyable in sections. Besides the excellent wines of Badacsony, one can also delve into history at Szigliget Castle or the ruins of Csobánc. An interesting fact about the basin is that in the 1960s they wanted to create an artificial bay reaching all the way to Tapolca.

    Author’s recommendation

The wine region has many excellent wine cellars. It is worth trying a glass after a tiring day.

The Szigliget Castle can only be visited with a ticket purchase.
