Törökmező is a perfect hiking destination for families with small children, where numerous discoveries await the little ones, while the range of on-site opportunities also ensures comfort and relaxation for adults.
The Southern Börzsöny region is an indispensable highlight also touched by the National Blue Trail at Törökmező. Not only because a tourist house operating throughout the year, animal and adventure parks welcome visitors here, but also due to its diverse natural environment. On the circular route of just over two kilometers, families with small children can enjoy a meaningful adventure hike on a terrain offering varied sights.
Törökmező used to be the largest pasture in Börzsöny, much of which has now become brushwood – yet vast meadows still surround the house. When in 1932 the area was designated a tourism model site to be managed by nature hikers, the path was opened for building the tourist house: the building was erected in 1938 by the tourists of Hitelbank.

Detailed description of the tour
Törökmező
The historic Törökmező is said to have been the campsite of the Turkish troops who besieged Visegrád Castle and who also grazed their animals here during the Ottoman period – hence the place name. Today, no grazing herds roam the flower-covered meadow in spring, where primarily spring pheasant's eye and later fly orchid bloom. We leave the asphalt on the right, on the P trail, arriving at the house.
Before delving into the programs available around the Törökmező tourist house, let's take a short exploratory walk to the nearby springs and the fish pond. We continue on the P trail, which after 150 meters merges into the Z● trail. Following this for a few meters leads us to the kettle-like valley head of the Fehér spring group.
The enchanting kettle of the springs
Several springs spring forth in the gorge lined with hornbeams and hazels. The steep valley walls are entwined with the extensive surface roots washed by surrounding trees, creating a wild spectacle in the fairy-tale-like kettle. Among the four springs, the oldest is the Fehér well, though its water is not potable; among the rest, we can safely count on the VIT spring’s waters. The springs discovered in the 1970s were named VIT and Havanna in memory of the Cuban World Youth Meeting. The Törökmező area is a plateau surrounded by mountains, formed by limestone created in seas washing the volcanic formations of Börzsöny. The springs emerge from beneath this porous limestone cover.
The "mountain eye" of Törökmező
Return to the previously touched Z marked trail and turn right. In a pleasant descent along a charming forest path, you arrive at the picturesque Törökmező fish pond nestled among wooded slopes. By damming the Malom-völgyi stream, a genuine small forest "mountain eye" was created here, whose idyll can be enjoyed by nature lovers without a fishing permit: you can also walk along the path beside the pond hidden under the foliage.
Child-friendly programs
At the dam of the pond, continue the excursion on the Z trail, then after a few steps, reach the K mark of the National Blue Trail, where turn left. Cross the bridge over the Malom-völgyi stream and begin the climb back to Törökmező, where the main forest decoration is an oak grove. The narrow little path leads with a comfortable ascent to the tourist house, where your circular route essentially ends. Next to the establishment offering warm meals, you'll find a forest playground, a rope and slide adventure park, as well as a mini zoo showcasing exotic animals and a petting zoo welcoming families. From here, it is only a 200-meter walk back to the parking lot.
