Highlights are the Kalvarienberg, the forest adventure center with treetop walkway, and the Lechfall waterfall.
Varied route, especially interesting for children! The path leads through the old town of Füssen to the Kalvarienberg viewpoint. The route is particularly beautiful in autumn when the mixed forest displays its fall colors. The adventure paths Auwaldpfad and Bergwaldpfad as well as the treetop walkway provide variety and fun for the children. From the Maxsteg, you have a good view into the narrow gorge of the Lechfall waterfall.
Author’s recommendation
As a family, you should definitely allow enough extra time at the forest adventure center in Ziegelwies and possibly also pack a change of clothes for the children. The muddy trail and many other great adventure stations await you. The treetop walkway is another (paid) highlight.

Did you know? ... the royal traces of the Kalvarienberg in Füssen ...
Around the same time as the reconstruction of Hohenschwangau Castle began, work on a Kalvarienberg on the Hutlerberg near Füssen started. The royal family, who resided nearby in Hohenschwangau, learned of this project and regularly visited the Kalvarienberg. Crown Prince Max of Bavaria, the later King Max II. and father of the fairy tale king Ludwig II., helped the initiator of the Kalvarienberg, city pastor Johann Baptist Graf, to mediate a particularly revered relic, a fragment of the cross, which found its way to Füssen in 1842. To reverently honor this relic, a small burial chapel was built below the three crosses, whose eternal light could be seen from Hohenschwangau Castle.
A few weeks before his death, on Good Friday 1886, King Ludwig II. visited the Kalvarienberg alone and silently prayed at all its stations. An eyewitness reported: “Suddenly, when I came to the next station, I saw the king deeply absorbed in prayer. (...) Before the monarch turned away from the station, he raised his face to the cloud-covered sky. For a long time, a desperate, sorrowful, and pain-marked look lingered in the direction where he seemed to seek God. Then he wiped his face with his hand to hide his tears.”
Roadbook
You start at the Tourist Information Füssen and cross the two traffic lights into Reichenstraße (pedestrian zone), at the end of which you reach the Lechhalde. From there, go left down to the Theresienbrücke bridge, where you cross the Lech river. Turn right into Tiroler Straße, from where you can already see the church tower "Of Our Dear Lady on the Mountain". Cross the main street and follow the hiking trail starting at the church to the Kalvarienberg. Always follow the "Kalvarienberg" signs, passing the so-called Hirschwiese meadow until you reach the plateau on the Kalvarienberg. From the plateau, descend eastward and follow the signs for the "Drei-Schlössser-Weg". At the next fork, keep right and hike on the wide gravel road towards "Ziegelwies". Shortly after the GEOgrenzGÄNGER adventure playground, turn left and follow the "White L", which points to the Lechweg trail. At the next fork, turn right and follow the signs to the "forest adventure center". This path leads you directly to the Bergwaldpfad, which takes you to the forest adventure center. Because of the many great adventure stations, it can sometimes be difficult to pay attention to the path, but all paths somehow lead to the forest adventure center. At the end of the Bergwaldpfad, cross the street using the traffic island or the tunnel running under the street. Follow the Auwaldpfad in the opposite direction up to the ascent to the Lechfall, using the yellow directional signs for orientation. After a short section on the paved footpath, turn left onto the Maxsteg, which takes you over the Lechfall onto the Ländeweg. Turn right and follow the Ländeweg about 200 meters, then turn right down the stairs to the Mühlenweg. Follow the Mühlenweg to Faulenbachgäßchen and continue towards the Theresienbrücke. Before the Theresienbrücke, turn left and walk up the Lechhalde. Turn right at the "Haus des Kindes" to reach Brotmarkt and then continue to Brunnengasse, at the end of which you turn left into Schrannengasse. At the end, you meet Reichenstraße again, which you follow to the right back to the Tourist Information.
Refreshment options are available at the kiosk of the forest adventure center, at the Lechfall, and in the old town of Füssen.
