    Safety information

Due to rock clearing, the hiking trail through the Hinanger Waterfall is closed on May 7 and 8, 2026!

    Roadbook

The starting point is at the hiking car park at the Hinanger Steige. In a southerly direction, you reach the Sonthofen district of Hinang (bus stop) via a field path. There you keep to the left by the St. Martin chapel (worth seeing!!) and soon go uphill to the Hinanger Waterfall. After the natural spectacle, you continue uphill along the stream and soon come to the Berghotel Sonnenklause. From here, head towards "Altstädter Hof." There is initially the last opportunity for refreshment until the end of this circuit. From the Alp, the path initially leads over an asphalt road, which later becomes an unpaved road and finally a path.

After the Altstädter Hof, you reach the ridge path towards the Sonnenkopf in about half an hour. From here and along the entire route until the descent from the Schnippenkopf, you almost always have a panoramic view over the Daumengruppe, Grünten, Illertal, Hörnergruppe, Allgäu main ridge, and later the Entschenkopf, Nebel-, and Rubihorn. Following the path further from the Sonnenkopf, it goes along the ridge across a meadow slightly downhill again, then through a small forest steeply but easily climbs up until you stand on the summit of the Heidelbeerkopf 20 to 30 minutes later. On the ascent, you will see that it rightfully bears its name. The path from there to the Schnippenkopf is somewhat longer, for which you need a good half-hour.

The last stretch of the path before the summit is somewhat exposed at one point; sure-footedness is required here. This path is not recommended in wet or icy conditions.

From the other side, the path to the Schnippenkopf is not exposed. Just before the summit, the path makes a right turn and leads slightly exposed diagonally across the steep slope for a few meters. On the summit, you finally have plenty of space, a complete panoramic view, and look down at the two previous summits with great joy.

The further way down initially leads for a few minutes southwards to a small hut, the Falkenalpe. There you turn right towards Schöllang - Sonnenklause. The two-hour return path mainly runs over meadows that are often relatively steep. Later you come to the unstaffed Entschen-Alpe, after which it soon continues downhill to the left along the Eybach. You follow the sign "Hinanger Waterfall" and return to the road to the Sonnenklause. Follow this road downhill to the left and hike back via Hinang on the same path to the starting point.
