Zum Altstädter Hof führt eine Asphaltstraße, die Benutzung mit dem Auto ist allerdings gebührenpflichtig und bedarf einer Erlaubnis, die bei der Stadtverwaltung Sonthofen oder an der Hofstelle der Wirtsleute eingeholt werden kann. Wanderungen starten am Feuerwehrhaus Altstädten, von dort geht es über den Alpweg nach oben.
Am 15. August findet jedes Jahr die Sonnenkopfmesse statt, die von der Musikkappelle Altstädten musikalisch umrahmt wird.
