Der Sonnenkopf (1712 m) ist der vorderste Gipfel der drei Berge in der Sonnenkopfgruppe, die zwischen dem Retterschwanger Tal (Bad Hindelang) und dem Illertal (Sonthofen - Oberstdorf) liegt. Die beiden anderen Gipfel sind der Heidelbeerkopf (1767 m) und der Schnippenkopf (1833).
Der Sonnenkopf ist sommers wie winters ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel für Wanderer, Skitourengänger und Schneeschuhläufer.
