A contrast-rich and eventful half-day route with varied landscape scenes. Open landscapes with orchards and magnificent, endless views characterize the first part of the hike. The forests, especially here, the primeval Kerbach Gorge shaped by water and wind, and the course of the renatured Oster provide an impressive hiking backdrop for the second part of the hike. As a “reward” for the effort, the hiker can expect wide views and picturesque watercourses. Stations such as the Hiemes recreation area also offer families hiking with children relaxation, play, and fun.

    Attention:

Entering the forest and walking the hiking trails is at your own risk!

Seasonal and weather conditions may require increased surefootedness on certain trail sections. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking shoes appropriate for the season and weather with adequate soles. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. In strong winds and in winter due to snow and ice, the risk of falling trees and dropping branches increases.

    Roadbook

The starting point of the hike is the car park at the Steinbach sports field. Through the entrance gate, follow a path to a forest path running parallel to the slope. After a short distance, this path is left again, and the route runs along the sports field on paths leading out of the forest. It continues over open meadow landscapes to the Betzelhübel (427m), the highest point of the route, and the panoramic tower (120 steps). The flat high plateau with its lush green meadows seems endless, with only some smaller bush islands and scattered orchard trees focusing the view.

The path continues down the meadow and turns left onto the orchard meadow area. At the end of the orchard meadow, turn left onto a winding gravel path and further into the forest, leading to the car park of the nearby recreational area "Kerbeacher Loch." With its shelter, numerous benches, and tables, a short rest is worthwhile.

After a short section on an asphalt path, the route leads into the Kerbach Gorge. A path crosses the Kerbach and then climbs steeply up along the old border rampart through a clearing to the hilltop. The path descends to the Hanauer Mühle. There the road is crossed, and the route continues parallel to the slope along the Oster, partly through old mill channels, to the Steinbach brook. This is crossed, and the ascent parallel to the brook is followed to a forest path.

Here, take an immediate left onto a path. The path winds steadily and steeply uphill to the "Hiemes recreational area." Here, cross the road and ascend again into the forest past a former quarry. The route continues towards Wehlberg. At the hilltop, turn left onto a wider path. This path leads the hiker back to the starting point of the route.
