The hike starts in Dietlas at the castle; you leave the village on a hiking trail towards Merkers. This hiking trail is a historic path from the Rhön Club, which represents a direct connection between Dietlas and Eisenach with the trail marking “EH”. Upon arrival in Merkers, you see the show mine for potash and salt. From Merkers, you head towards Krayenberg with the Krayenburg on top. After crossing the Werra, you find yourself in the Thuringian Forest and leave the Vorder Rhön behind. Along the foot of Krayenberg, you come to Tiefenort. There, you pass by the church and hike to Zeppelinstein, a memorial stone for the emergency landing of the Zeppelin in World War I. Then it continues towards Möhra. Before arriving in Möhra, you have a beautiful view over the Thuringian Forest. Upon arrival in Möhra, you are in the birthplace of Martin Luther. From Möhra, the route goes to Etterwinden, which you only pass through briefly. Then it continues to Altenberger See, a campsite with swimming facilities. From the lake, you hike further to Wilhelmsthal into the hunting lodge park. After visiting the park, the route climbs to the former excursion restaurant “Hohe Sonne”. From Hohe Sonne, the path continues along the wine road to the Burschenschaftsdenkmal, passing the large Dragon Rock. Here you have a nice view of the Rennsteig and the Hörsel mountains. Upon arrival at the Burschenschaftsdenkmal, you have a view of the city of Eisenach and the Wartburg. From here the route leads towards the city to the train station, the endpoint of the hike.
