Around 10 kilometres south of Eisenach lies the little village of Wilhelmsthal. The historic Baroque and neo-classical-style palace and park is located by the banks of an artificial lake. It is the former summer residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and was mainly occupied during the hunting season. The last renovation work, that today characterises the appearance of the building, can be traced back to Duke Carl August.

Extensive renovation work that began in 2011 is currently being carried out on the palace.

At present, it is not possible to go inside the palace. For personal tours, please contact the Förderkreis Schlossanlage Wilhelmsthal e.V.
