The castle was built to protect the road called “Magna via”, a royal postal route passing through Turiec. Around the castle there are rich archaeological sites, among the treasures is especially the Blatnica sword. You can find its replica in the castle grounds.
It is mentioned in the legend about the brave young man Blatoň, who saved the lives of the Nitra princes Pribina and Mojmír. Apparently, the castle got its name Blatnica after him and the area was named Turiec in honor of a memorable hunt for aurochs.
The Civic Association Diadém has been involved in the castle’s preservation for several years.
