The circular hiking route leads around the town of Bischofswerda, which is also known as the gateway to Upper Lusatia. The hiking trail offers both urban and nature experiences and is therefore interesting for many different types of hikers.
Due to the total length of 32 km, the hiking trail can alternatively be walked on a northern route (15.5 km) and a southern route (16.5 km). The northern route is characterized by many sights and activities such as the animal and cultural park, the forest stage, or the Butterberg. The southern route is somewhat quieter - here the hiking trail passes through meadows, fields, and forests. Both routes offer beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Northern Route
Starting from the train station (counterclockwise), the route heads toward Horka Pond and continues to Frog Pond. Then it goes along the railway tracks through the Bischofswerda city forest to the district of Kynitzsch. After crossing the S 111, the trail leads gradually up the "Old Railway Embankment" to Butterberg. Before reaching the summit, the "Schönbrunner View" offers a beautiful prospect over Upper Lusatia. The path continues toward the summit, passing the "Jagdhütte" restaurant through green forests. Once you reach Butterberg, the guesthouse invites you for a visit and the observation tower offers panoramic views. From Butterberg, connections are available to Rammenau and Hochstein (449 m above sea level) in the Luchsenburg, the highest mountain in the West Lusatia region. The hiking trail leaves the mountain on the other side of Butterberg through Geißmannsdorf to downtown Bischofswerda, passing the Bürgerteiche ponds, Napoleonstein, and of course the animal and cultural park, a highlight of the route. The circular route ends back at the train station.
Southern Route
Starting the southern tour from the train station (counterclockwise), the path first heads toward "Grüne Linde", a small viewpoint with seating. Continuing south to Großdrebnitz, the trail goes through open landscapes. Upon arrival, the path turns toward Rüdenberg. Through extensive forests, the trail reaches the mountain and then leaves it heading toward Putzkau. From Putzkau, there are connections to Valtenberg (578 m above sea level), Hoher Hahn (446 m above sea level), and Großer Picho (499 m above sea level). Past the Putzkau church, the trail leads northward to Belmsdorf, a district of Bischofswerda. From here, it goes to Horkauer Pond and back to the train station in Bischofswerda.
