Der Bahnhof befindet sich im Süden der Innenstadt von Bischofswerda.
Auf insgesamt 3 vorhandenen Bahnsteiggleisen kann man am Bischofswerda Bahnhof vereisen. Der Regional-Express RE 1 verkehrt vom Hauptbahnhof Dresden in Richtung Görlitz und der RE 2 verkehrt vom Hauptbahnhof Dresden nach Liberec. Die Regionalbahn Linie RB60 fährt vom Dresdner Hauptbahnhof in Richtung Görlitz, die RB61 fährt vom Dresdner Hauptbahnhof in Richtung Zittau und der OE60V bedient die Strecke Bischwofswerda in Richtung Görlitz. Ein großer P+R sowie ein Busbahnhof liegen direkt neben dem Bahnhof. Ebenso gibt es für Bahnreisende Fahrrad Unterstellmöglichkeiten.
