Nur ein paar Schritte vom Altmarkt entfernt befindet sich der Mühlteich, ein kleines Idyll am Rande des Stadtkerns.
Das Areal eignet sich hervorragend zum Verweilen und Flanieren. Vom nahe gelegenen Eiscafé, welches mit einer Sonnenterrasse und kulinarischen Leckerbissen aufwartet, kann ein aus Granit gefertigtes Wasserspiel beobachtet werden.
An der Bahnhofstraße steht die partiell restaurierte Postmeilensäule aus dem Jahre 1724. Die Buchstaben A und R sowie die Wappen auf ihr verweisen auf Friedrich August, genannt der Starke, Kurfürst von Sachsen (1694-1733) und König von Polen (1697-1733). Teile der ursprünglichen Postmeilensäule sind im Rathaus ausgestellt.
