We leave Kőszeg's renowned grounds and main street heading towards the Pogányok district's wine cellars and vineyards. After forest paths, we reach Cák’s notable wine cellar row and the Hordómosó Spring. Along the vineyards, we soon cross into Velem, where after a refreshment we tackle the ascents. After the St. Vitus Chapel and the OKT memorial, we arrive at the Hörmann resting place.
The Kendig Ridge offers splendid views to both sides (towards Austria and the Little Hungarian Plain): flickering small Austrian villages are as visible as the brightly lit Szombathely. After the Red Cross, the Óház Lookout follows: here the evening and night lights of Kőszeg captivate. We descend through a magnificent forest section between the Fatalin Beeches and Devil's Plate Rock, then admire the view towards Rőtfalva (Rattersdorf) from Pintér Hill.
On Calvary Hill, we go out to the Trianon Cross, where the new lookout promises another panorama. But it’s not the last! That will greet you at the Suleiman Lookout, almost floating above the illuminated town.

Author’s recommendation
- Before Cák, it is also worth visiting the abandoned quarry: here you can see the steep rock walls while it is still light.
- The Hordómosó Spring (Cák wine cellar row) is a must-not-miss: it gifts fresh, delicious water.
- After St. Vitus Chapel, with a slight detour you can see the OKT memorial (where the starting point was for 40 years).
- It is also worth making the 2×250 meter detour to Hörmann Spring: the highest spring in the mountains also provides very good water.
