Safety information
General information:
Especially in autumn, it is important to note that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches can break off afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. You must expect such path impairments when undertaking a cycle tour. If you consider certain sections of the route impassable for you, you should bypass them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where cycle paths are closed, and we may not have been informed. Should you unexpectedly encounter a closure or detour, please follow the instructions for your own safety.
Traffic regulations must be observed!
Attention: the Pfälzer Land cycle path runs over several bridge structures with sheet metal covering. Please ride carefully in wet or slippery conditions.
Roadbook
In this description, Altenglan is chosen as the starting point. Since it is a circular route, of course any other point on the trail is also suitable as a starting point. In addition to the Altenglan train stop, all other train stations and stops along the route, as well as hotels and inns, offer themselves here.
In Altenglan, three themed routes meet: the cross-border Glan-Blies cycle path, the Fritz-Wunderlich cycle path, and the Pfälzer Land cycle path.
On this route, the tour first runs parallel to the Glan-Blies cycle path and the draisine route to the north. Still in Altenglan, the Pfälzer Land cycle path then branches off to the right and runs along a newly built cycle path from 2017 parallel to the state road towards Friedelhausen. At the Altenglan swimming pool, the cycle path branches off and crosses the Reichenbach. Here it runs very idyllically through the valley, and over further bridges into the village of Friedelhausen, a district of Bosenbach. It then continues mostly off the roads through Niederstaufenbach and Oberstaufenbach to Reichenbach-Steegen.
Past the Protestant church and the kindergarten, the cycle path here switches to the route of the former Bach railway and runs very idyllically through the valley. Tip: the Monkey climbing forest lies directly on the route.
Through Schwedelbach, the path partly runs over residential streets before switching back to the railway track.
In August 2019, the cycle path church was inaugurated here, a great place for a quiet pause!
The railway track ends in Weilerbach - here there is also an opportunity for a break, for example at the former station.
Past the Pfeifermühle, it goes alongside the road into the Lautertal. Here the Pfälzer Land cycle path meets the Lautertal cycle path. The circular route branches off south, and until Otterbach both tourist routes run together on the beautiful valley cycle path. In Otterbach, the Pfälzer Land cycle path branches off towards Otterberg, and the circular route follows the Lautertal cycle path towards Kaiserslautern.
Shortly behind the sewage treatment plant, the Lautertal cycle path and Barbarossa cycle path meet.
Tip: the Kaiserslautern Garden Show is just a few 100m further at the West Station and a very worthwhile destination.
The circular route switches to the Barbarossa cycle path towards Weilerbach and from the open valley landscape into a forest with the two Woogen, the Blechhammerwoog and the Vogelwoog. Further through the forest, the route reaches Siegelbach and leads directly past the zoo on to Rodenbach.
The landscape opens up again and the Barbarossa cycle path passes the Seewoog to Miesenbach and Ramstein. Via Niedermohr, the Glan-Blies cycle path is reached. Barbarossa cycle path and Glan-Münchweiler run together until here. At Glan-Münchweiler station the Barbarossa cycle path ends, and the Glan-Blies cycle path continues parallel to the railway line northwards.
Via Rehweiler and Matzenbach, the path leads to Theisbergstegen. Here, storks can often be seen in the meadows, some of which also live all year round in the stork station in Theisbergstegen.
The cycle path runs through a former quarry area and stays parallel to the railway until Altenglan, the starting point of the cycle tour.

Equipment
For our cycle tours, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
- Wearing a helmet
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Sun and rain protection
- Sufficient supply of food and drinks since not everywhere there are dining or shopping opportunities available or open.
- Even though the paths are very well marked throughout, for safety reasons it is always recommended to carry a suitable
cycle map, so that, for example, in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency you can quickly find a safe area.
