Mariastein

This picturesque tour leads across the Swiss-French border area on the one hand, and on the other hand also across the confusing cantonal borders in the region due to the Solothurn exclave with places such as Rodersdorf, Flüh, Mariastein and Metzerlen surrounded by the Baselbiet region or with the border to France.
This "pilgrimage" to Mariastein can be shortened with variants A or B as well as with variant C and can also be made less steep. Variant C is particularly recommended if your legs are no longer quite fresh in Laufen, because up to Grellingen the suggested original route still leads over 2-3 crisp climbs.
The origins of the church and the Benedictine monastery of Mariastein go back to the 14th century and were originally closely connected with the Beinwil monastery (on the Laufen - Passwang route). Even today, the Mariastein monastery is a popular pilgrimage destination.
