Das Kloster Dornach war einstiger Sitz der Kapuziner im Birseck. Kapuziner sind ein Reformzweig des Franziskanerordens und sahen sich als kirchliche Erneuerer. Der Bau des Kapuzinerklosters wurde durch eine Erbschaft von Maria Magdalena von Roll (1604 - 1672) ermöglicht. Sie testamentierte 6000 Gulden für die Gründung eines Klosters in Dornach. Der Bau wurde im Jahre 1676 vollendet. Kapuzinermönche sind eigentumslos und leben von Spenden und Wohltaten, ihr Alltag in Dornach bestand aus Gebet, seelsorgerischer Arbeit, Almosengängen, Predigten und Gottesdiensten, Aushilfen in umliegenden Pfarreien, Beichten, Unterhalt der Gebäude, Hausmissionen, Exerzitien und Erwachsenenbildung. Jedoch mussten die Mönche im Jahre 1990, mangels neuer Eintritte, das Kloster verlassen und verteilten sich auf andere Klöster in der Innerschweiz. Seit 1996 führt nun die «Stiftung Kloster Dornach» das Kloster. Die Franziskanische Tradition soll in zeitgemässer Form auf- und fortleben können. Das Kloster Dornach birgt heute eine Schenke und eine Herberge sowie Seminarräume für Weiterbildungen und Vorträge.


Alle Zimmer sind wie zu Klosterszeiten einfach eingerichtet: ein Bett,, ein Pult und ein Schrank. Kein Internet oder TV. Die frisch renovierten Duschen und WCs befinden sich auf der Etage.


Lichtdurchflutete Räume und Zimmer mit Blick auf den grossen, wunderbaren Garten vermitteln Ruhe und Behaglichkeit. Körper, Geist und Seele können sich in einem offenen Haus erholen. Gerade Menschen, die in der kulturell und wirtschaftlich pulsierenden Region Basel wohnen, geniessen hier oft einige Stunden der Erholung. In der Klosterkirche ist noch heute die Spiritualität der Kapuziner zu spüren, wenn Gottesdienste abgehalten werden, sich Brautpaare das Ja-Wort geben oder Musik den Raum erfüllt.
