Route description
The start and end point of this route is located at the Burgplatz in Schöningen. This is a circular route, so alternatively, you can start and end the route at any other place along the described path.
From the Burgplatz, you need to pedal hard right away because the Elm must be climbed. Passing the St. Lorenz Church and the golf course, the route leads to the Golden Deer and the Elmsburg.
Once you reach the ridgeway, the route proceeds almost on a constant elevation line to the forest edge above Eitzum. You can tell that you are approaching the "City of Pranks" by the many "Eulenspiegel stations" located along the route.
In Küblingen, you reach the outskirts of Schöppenstedt. Following the Altenau river, the route leads to the market square, where besides the town hall, there are also several Eulenspiegel installations. Not far from the town hall, the Till-Eulenspiegel Museum invites you for a visit.
Kneitlingen, the birthplace of Eulenspiegel, is the next stage before Till's baptism path leads to Ampleben. In the middle of the village is the baptismal font where Till received his first baptism.
After conquering the strenuous climb to the edge of the Elm, an impressive view of the so-called "Tuscany of the North" opens up.
A little further west lies the fruit-growing settlement Evessen, since the southwestern edge of the Elm offers good conditions for
fruit cultivation. Several farms cultivate areas with apple, pear, and cherry trees, whose fruits are sold in farm shops.
Passing the adventure quarry Am Markmorgen (stamp station 3), the route continues through Erkerode to the Lucklum Manor. This centuries-old estate with manor house, estate church, farm and residential buildings, and a landscape park invites you to visit. Next, it goes on to Veltheim, where a detour to the water castle with the St. Remigius Church is mandatory. Shortly afterward, the Schlosspark Destedt is on the sightseeing program.
After leaving Destedt behind, the post windmill in Abbenrode appears on the horizon. From here, the route leads via Bornum and Lauingen to Königslutter am Elm.
The sightseeing tour begins here at the historic market square. Directly next to the town hall are the city church and the GeoPark information center. Through the town center, the route then leads to the Imperial Cathedral, the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, and the over 900-year-old Emperor Lothar Linden tree.
In an eastern direction, it continues via Sunstedt and Lelm to Räbke, the historic mill town with the Liesebach mill, the North Elm recreational park, and the Schunter spring.
On the way back through the Elm, a detour to the Old Warberg Castle (stamp station 4) is worthwhile before shortly afterward the eastern edge of the Elm is reached and the route ends at the Burgplatz in Schöningen.
