Diese Schlossanlage wurde im Mittelalter als Wasserburg errichtet und soll der Stammsitz der uradligen braunschweigischen Ministerialengeschlechts derer von Veltheim sein.

Das Schloss besteht aus zwei Obergeschossen und einem kellerartigen Unterbau. Ein Entstehenungsjahr ist nicht bekannt, jedoch wurde sie am Fuße des Elms errichtet und sicherte das westliche Vorfeld sowie die Handelsstraße von Braunschweig. Nach einem Brand im Jahr 1430 war dies Schloss als unbewohnter Rittersitz der Familie Veltheim urkundlich erwähnt. Georg Philipp III. von Veltheim vollendete den Schlossbau um 1740. Westlich des eindrucksvollen Schlosses ließ Georg Philipp III. von Veltheim einen französischen Garten anlegen, der heute noch viele Besucher begeistert.
