Historischer Boden in Schöningen, denn Karl der Große und Kaiser Otto III. waren bereits in der St. Lorenz Kirche. Das romanische Taufbecken, das spätgotischen Chorgestühl und Holztafeln aus der Passionsgeschichte sind nur einige Highlights, die entdeckt werden können.

Die St. Lorenz Kirche wurde im Jahr 1120 als ein Kloster der Augustiner erbaut. Der typische romanische Bau ist noch deutlich erkennbar durch die Teile des Chores und des Querhauses. Das Langhaus und das Westwerk wurden im 15. Jahrhundert zerstört und anschließend wiederaufgebaut. Seit nun mehr als 900 Jahren wird in der St. Lorenz Kirche gesungen und gebetet zu den Klängen der modernen Orgen, die 1998 in die Kirche eingefügt wurde.
