As the name suggests, the 3-Kaiserberg Route passes by all three “Kaiserbergs” and offers magnificent views stretching far into the Stauferland region at every turn.
The most famous of the Zeugenberge is undoubtedly the striking Hohenstaufen, which rises to just under 700 meters and once stood the ancestral castle of the famous imperial dynasty. This technically challenging bike tour spans 51 kilometers (with 669 meters of elevation gain) and is ideal for a day trip. The route is particularly recommended for athletic, fit cyclists who will be rewarded for tackling challenging climbs with a magnificent panoramic view of the Filstal valley and the Albtrauf.

Roadbook
The 3-Kaiserberg Route begins in Göppingen and leads through Süßen, along the gently ascending Lauter Valley, to Nenningen. From there, it continues through the idyllic Christental Valley, past the Reiterles Chapel near Tannweiler, to the foot of the Stuifen and past the Rechberg to Hohenstaufen. Here, at the Documentation Center for Staufer History, you can learn all about the Staufer dynasty while enjoying the magnificent view over the Filstal valley and the imposing “Blue Wall” of the Albtrauf. The route continues over the Aasrücken ridge, with its magnificent views into the Ottenbach Valley—known as the “Göppinger Allgäu”—to Wäschenbeuren. A detour to the imposing walls of the secluded Wäscherschloss—which was named “Castle of the Year” in 2011—is particularly worthwhile. Afterward, you return via the bike path along the old railroad right-of-way through Faurndau into the Filstal valley to Göppingen. The Three Imperial Mountains—Hohenstaufen (684 m above sea level), Rechberg (707 m above sea level), and Stuifen (757 m above sea level)—are iconic peaks of the Swabian Alb and together form the so-called “Triad of the Three Imperial Mountains.” With their striking shapes, they define the silhouette of the natural landscape around Göppingen, a motif that is also featured in the city of Göppingen’s logo.
