In the entrance area, an exhibition about the universe gets visitors in the mood for observing the heavens. Display boards, models and various themed showcases lead visitors step by step into the depths of space. A separate space corner displays detailed models of rockets, space shuttles, the ISS and other milestones in the history of space travel.
The heart of the facility is the 60 m² observation platform with five telescopes. An electrically retractable roof provides a view of the starry sky - ideal for guided tours. Stepladders also make it easier to view the sky from higher eyepiece positions.
Opposite is the large lecture room for up to 80 people. Equipped with a sound system, screen, projector and a planetarium program, it offers space for lectures, sky explanations and simulations. A true-to-scale, movable model of our solar system hovers overhead.
The observation dome is reserved for members and is primarily used for astrophotography.
Other highlights include a precise sundial on the south side and an extensive meteorite collection, which displays rare finds from all over the world.
The Messelberg Observatory combines astronomy, space travel and science to create a fascinating experience - welcome to the stars.
Opening times
A visit outside of a public event or a pre-arranged group event is not possible, as the observatory is run exclusively by volunteer members of Sternfreunde Donzdorf e.V..Therefore, please inform yourself in advance about the event program: https: //messelbergsternwarte.de/programm/
