The view of the Ammergau Alps, the Zugspitze, and the Tannheimer mountains is nonetheless beautiful. Definitely a route worth doing with snowshoes. The Schönkahler is one of the easiest and most popular snowshoe and ski routes in the Allgäu Alps. The rather flat terrain is excellent for snowshoeing. In cooperation with the Rechtler Association Pfronten as the landowner as well as the forestry authorities in Bavaria and Tyrol, the municipality of Pfronten, thanks to the coordination of the German Alpine Club (DAV), has created environmentally friendly routes for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers on the Schönkahler. The local DAV section takes care of the maintenance of the areas on a voluntary basis, and the routes are very well marked. Please note: the route is partly not signposted! Recommended only for experienced snowshoe hikers.

With snowshoes to the Vorderes and then to the Hinteres Ächsele, there you are in heaven. An easy snowshoe route that can be taken in the lower part under all weather and avalanche conditions. Above, the sparse forest may give a false sense of security. So from level 4 onwards, the last 150 meters of elevation gain should be carefully assessed. Experience snowshoe hiking in Pfronten

The hospitable town of Pfronten is crossed by the Vils and lies at the foot of the Breitenberg and the Falkenstein with the highest castle ruins in Germany. In the south of the village is the almost 2,000-metre-high Aggenstein, which belongs to the Tannheim Mountains and is connected to many other peaks by mountain paths. You can always combine a snowshoe tour or hike in magnificent nature with a visit to a rustic hut. In Pfronten or in the neighbouring Tannheim Valley, you can glide light as a feather on glistening powder snow through untouched deep snow fields. There is nothing more beautiful and relaxing than the Allgäu winter landscape with guaranteed snow. Very unique experiences are guided snowshoe tours with local experts.
