Az eredetileg Kiskút-forrásnak nevezett forrás 1955-ben vette fel Kinizsi Pál, a legendás hadvezér és a közeli Nagyvázsony földesura nevét. Ekkor készült el az a betonmedence is, amelynek „elődjét” halastó gyanánt a kolostor lakói építették a 13. században. A foglalat kialakításakor a forráscsoport összes forrásának – számuk pontosan meghatározhatatlan, olvashatunk 6, 8, de 20 forrásról is – vizét belevezették a ma is látható betonmedencébe. A Tálodi kolostorrom és környéke 1959 óta védettséget élvez.
