A Köves-mező a Dunakanyar börzsönyi oldalának egyik kedvelt kirándulóhelye. Nem csoda: számtalan padot és tűzrakó helyet találunk a könnyű sétával megközelíthető réten, ahonnan a visegrádi várban és a Nagy-Villám látványában is gyönyörködhetünk.

A Köves-mező hosszan elnyúló rétláncolatának központjában kihasználatlan parkoló terül el. A nagy népszerűségnek örvendő területre egykor autók tucatjai hajtottak be, de ez a 2010-es évek óta tilos: a betonlapokkal kirakott műúton csak a Törökmezői turistaházig közlekedhetünk gépjárművünkkel. A parkoló környékén szétszórva több tűzrakó hely és pihenőpad várja a látogatókat, így egyszerre akár több baráti társaság is le tud telepedni a réten. A Köves-mező keleti kitüremkedéséről pedig csodás panoráma tárul fel a visegrádi vár és a Nagy-Villám felé.

A Csapás-rétek

A Köves-mező parkolójától mintegy 2 km hosszú, keskeny rétsáv húzódik észak felé. Ezen a mesterségesen létrehozott, hagyásfás tisztássávon ma is sok idős, látványos tölgyet láthatunk. A Csapás-rétek nevű kaszáló egy letűnt tájhasználati forma emlékét őrzi: a mezőt a németországi piacok felé vezető középkori marhahajtóút mentén alakították ki. A dús füvű legelőn az állatok tápálékhoz juthattak, az őket kísérő gulyások a hagyásfák árnyékában pihenhettek, az e célból ültetett gyümölcsfák termésével pedig éhségüket, szomjukat olthatták. Bár a marhahajtóút később eljelentéktelenedett, a nagymarosiak nem hagyták a rét beerdősülését, állataik legelőjeként hasznosították azt. Az 1960-as évektől ez a rendeltetés lassan visszaszorult. 2012- az Ipoly Erdő Zrt. tájrehabilitációt hajtott végre a Csapás-réteken, így azokat ma is egykori formájukban láthatjuk.

A Csapás-rétek északi vége egy lejtő teteje, ahonnan kiválóan rálátni a Magas-Börzsöny hegyeire.

Kőkereszt

A Köves-mezőt átszelő K+ jelzés mentén egy kis kőkeresztet kereshetünk fel. Az 1851-ben állított, majd 1880-ban felújított kegyhelyen négysoros német verset olvashatunk: „Ach mein gekreuzigter Herr Jesu Christ, / Der für mich an dem heil Kreutz gestorben ist, / Und wan ich kom vor das letzte Gericht / Herr Jesu Christ, verdam mich nicht.” Magyarra fordítva: „Ó, én megfeszített Jézusom, aki meghaltál értem a kereszten, ne ítélj el a végítélet napján!” A kereszt felirata szerint Stefan Köyer állítatta azt szenvedései emlékére.
