Volcán de San Antonio and Salinas de Fuencaliente
Further down, old lava fields and dark volcanic ash areas form a barren dry landscape with sparse succulent vegetation.
In the shallow bay below the lighthouse (Faro de Fuencaliente), swimming in the sea is safely possible, unless the signal flag indicates otherwise.
The geometrically arranged salt ponds shimmer spectacularly in pink and white hues; they are privately owned but can be visited. A small restaurant also invites you to rest and refresh.
After climbing back up, the Volcán de San Antonio impresses with its huge crater which can be climbed, and a concluding visit to the volcano museum provides information about the geological past of La Palma island including details about the latest volcanic eruption in 2021.

Roadbook
From the Faro, you can descend to the right to a small bay with some fishing boats and possibly swim in the sea there (observe the signal flag!).
Then follow from the east side of the parking lot the access to the salt pans, which offer a spectacular display of colors that can also be admired from a small restaurant. Behind the salt pans, a small viewpoint marks the southern tip of the island of La Palma.
For the return trip, follow from the lighthouse a side road to the northeast and head directly towards some wind turbines. At the first left bend, continue straight on following a signpost "Las Cabras". Above the wind turbines, the path forks and you follow a track uphill to the left. At the next fork, keep left again and continue uphill. Shortly afterward, a small obelisk points to a footpath leading uphill through volcanic sand. After a while, you cross the access road to the Faro and continue the path slightly to the right uphill. At the top of the slope, the path turns right and joins a sandy track which soon becomes a flat hauling road. You cross a concrete track and proceed straight at the next crossroads on a sandy track uphill. This track soon becomes a wide footpath, leading steeply uphill and turning left at the top to cross a field path. Behind, at the first pines, the path becomes really steep once again before it turns right and finally reaches a road, on which you turn left and pass a kindergarten returning to the visitor center at Volcán de San Antonio.
To climb the Volcán de San Antonio, which is well worth the effort, you must pay an entrance fee at the visitor center, as the access to the crater is located directly in the volcano museum.
