Az Északi-Bükk testébe metsző Csondró-völgy fölé domborodik a Kemesnye-tető, aminek oldalában számos sziklakiszögellés szaggatja fel a karsztbokorerdőt, remek kilátópontokat kínálva a vidék belső területeire, a Csondró-völgy környezetére és egy szűk sávban a Tokaji-hegységre.
A Kemesnye-hegy mészkőplatójának déli szegélye több sziklakibukkanással szakad a mélybe, a Csondró-patak szurdokába torkolló Kemesnye-völgybe.
A rétegesen felépülő mészkősziklák az alant húzódó Csondró-patak völgyrendszerére, forrásvidékére tekintenek. Az erdős völgyeket a Kis-fennsík markáns északi letörése keretezi, amit az Örvény-kő tömbjétől a Bálvány toronyban csúcsosodó ormáig láthatunk. Jó időben feltűnik a Látó-kövek erdők fölé bukkanó fehér sziklakiszögellése, az Örvény-kő lábánál húzódó gerincen pedig egy erősen gyűrt sziklasebhely mutatja fehér mészkőbordáit: az Odvas-kő üregekkel szabdalt sziklája látszik. A Bükk lábán túl jó időben kivehetjük a Hernád völgye fölé emelkedő Eperjes-Tokaji-hegyvidéket is.
A Kemesnye-kőt hordozó, triász mészkőből felépülő hegytömb tektonikusan szétszabdalt, töredezett kőzetblokkok hálózatába ékelődik. A hegység peremének legészakibb kiszögellése szigetszerűen emelkedik ki a körülötte hullámzó hegyvidékből, amelyet puhább kőzetminősége miatt a vízfolyások mélyen felárkoltak.

- Ha délről közelítenénk, Ómassára utazhatunk Miskolcról a 15-ös számú helyi járattal.

- A Mályinka, tűzoltószertár megállóhelytől a Csondró-völgyön keresztül a K+ jelzésen érünk a Mária-forráshoz, ahonnan a S jelzést követjük nyugat felé, majd a S▲ jelzéshez csatlakozunk, ami a sziklaszírtre vezet (7,2 km, 445 m szintemelkedés) .
- Ómassáról a K jelzésen jutunk fel Szentlélekre, majd a Látó-kövek utáni elágazásból a S jelzést követjük nyugat felé, végül a S▲ jelzéshez csatlakozunk (6,8 km, 320 m szintemelkedés).

- A sziklához legközelebb parkolni a Kemesnye-tető alatti nyeregben, a S▲ kiágazásánál tudunk.
