A forrás múltja
A Rákóczi-forrást forrást 1929-ben foglalta a Mátra Egylet, bár a vízfakadás már korábban is ismert és népszerű volt. Eredetileg Közel-kút néven jegyezték a térképek – az elnevezés arra utal, hogy Mátrafüredről rövid sétával elérhető a száraz időben is bőven folyó friss víz. A forrás új nevét egy régi legenda után kapta, miszerint a Rákóczi-szabadságharc után a fejedelem a Mátrán átkelve hagyta el az országot, érintve a forrást is. Kurucai a visszaúton már a fejedelem nélkül pihentek meg itt. Ezt a jelenetet mutatta meg az első, szomorú vitézt ábrázoló dombormű, amely a 2. világháború során megsemmisült. Az új díszítőelemen már Rákóczi arcképét láthatjuk.
Nem véletlen az sem, hogy a S jelzésű Rákóczi túramozgalom – amely a fejedelem emlékét őrző mátrai helyszíneket keresi fel – igazolópontja is megtalálható itt.

- A forráshoz legközelebb a Sástó buszmegálló van.
- A Mátrafüred, autóbusz-váróterem is jó kiindulópont.

Directions
- A Sástó buszmegállóból a S+ jelzésű turistaúton induljunk el keleti irányba, ez elvezet a forráshoz (730 m, szintemelkedés nélkül).
- A Mátrafüred, autóbusz-váróteremből a P● jelzésű turistaúton induljunk el, ez elvezet a forráshoz (1,4 km, 131 m szintemelkedés).
Parking
- Sástón fizetős parkolóban hagyhatjuk az autót, amelynek napidíja 700 Ft.
- Mátrafüreden az autóbusz-váróterem közelében, a Béke utcában és a Parádi úton is alakítottak ki ingyenes parkolókat.
