Nem csak térben meredhetünk távolra, hiszen egy Árpád-kori sáncvár területén járunk. Az erődítményről alig van információnk, írásos emlékek nem említik, feltevések szerint a 15. század elejére már elpusztult. Kőmaradványait később a török háborúk és a II. világháború idején is felhasználták, széthordták. Mára a csekély nyomok nem hordoznak különösebb izgalmat, az avatatlan szemek talán észre sem veszik, de akit érdekel, kifürkészheti a földsáncok nyomát. A vár része a Várak a Mátrában túramozgalomnak.
A kilátó közelében fakad a Mátra egyik legjobb forrása, a Rákóczi-forrás, ahol száraz időszakban is friss vizet szerezhetünk.

- A legközelebbi buszmegálló a Mátrafüred, autóbusz-váróterem.
- A Sástó buszmegálló is jó kiindulópont.

Directions
- A Mátrafüred, autóbusz-váróteremből a S jelzésű turistaút vezet fel a kilátóhoz (1,1 km, 126 m szintemelkedés).
- A Sástó buszmegállóból a S+ jelzésű turistaúton induljunk el, majd a Rákóczi-forrásnál forduljunk jobbra, a S jelzésű ösvényre (1,3 km, szintemelkedés nélkül).
Parking
- Mátrafüreden az autóbusz-váróterem közelében, a Béke utcában és a Parádi úton is alakítottak ki ingyenes parkolókat.
- Sástón fizetős parkolóban hagyhatjuk az autót, ennek díja 700 Ft/nap.
