This diverse stage mainly runs along the Albtrauf. Many beautiful viewpoints, the ruins of Reußenstein, the Randecker Maar, the Auchtert hill and the Rauber ruin are located on this route. The highlights of the hike are certainly the view from Breitenstein and the Burg Teck, which is located above Owen. The paths are partly quite steep and sure-footedness is required, especially when wet. Occasionally we are also walking on asphalt. There is an option for food and overnight stay at the Burg Teck hiking shelter (observe opening hours!).

Here you can go directly to Albsteig stage 9!

    Author’s recommendation

“Nowhere can you experience the diversity of the Albtrauf as well as on this section: the spectacular Reußenstein castle ruins, the expansive views, the Hof Ziegelhütte, the Randecker Maar and Schopflocher Moor and of course the Burg Teck – all this makes this hike a unique experience.”

Erich Haas, Gau chairman Teck-Neuffen-Gau, Swabian Alb Association

    Safety information

The ascents require quite good fitness and sure-footedness, especially when wet.

This is a moderately difficult mid-mountain hike, the ascents are partly steep and the paths quite narrow. Experienced hikers will therefore enjoy it more than beginners. Experience, endurance and appropriate equipment are required. The Albsteig (HW1) was completely re-signed in 2016 and re-certified as a quality trail in 2020. A hiking map and/or GPS device are never a bad idea as a supplement.
