The Fuchseck is an approximately 762-metre-high vantage point on the northern edge of the Swabian Alb and a striking spur of the Albtrauf. It is located south-east of Eschenbach and south-west of Schlat and offers an impressive view over the foothills of the Alb. The view of the three imperial mountains - Hohenstaufen, Rechberg and Stuifen - which can be easily recognized from here, is particularly well-known.
The summit itself is rather gentle and, together with the surrounding mountain ranges, forms a varied landscape on the Albtrauf. The slightly higher Rottelstein is located in the immediate vicinity. The boundaries of the municipalities of Schlat, Heiningen and Bad Ditzenbach also meet at the Fuchseck.
A popular resting point is the panoramic viewing platform, which was built in 2008 by the Eschenbach nature sports group. Information boards explain the special features of the landscape and commemorate the theologian and geologist Dr. Theodor Engel. The natural scientist, who was born in Eschenbach, was an outstanding expert on the Swabian Alb and spent a lot of time in this region. The place is also known as the "Dr. Theodor Engel Resting Place" in his honor.
The well-known long-distance hiking trail Schwäbische-Alb-Nordrand-Weg (HW 1), one of the most popular hiking trails in the region, also leads over the Fuchseck. This makes the viewpoint a frequent destination for hikers, walkers and mountain bikers. The ascent from Eschenbach is considered to be particularly demanding and offers active sports enthusiasts a delightful challenge.
With its sweeping views, tranquil location on the Albtrauf and the combination of nature, history and hiking culture, the Fuchseck is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region.
