A Fesztung 19. századi német kifejezés, erődöt jelent. Bár itt igazi erőd sosem állt, 1848-ban volt itt egy, a drávai átkelők védelmére épített ütegállás. Ennek állít emléket a szerény emlékhely.
A Fesztung az itt történt 1848 szeptemberi eseményekre emlékezik, amikor Perczel Mór maroknyi csapatának sikerült rövid időre feltartóztatnia Jellasics horvát bán 35 ezres hadseregét, akik Pestre igyekeztek, hogy véget vessenek a szerintük törvénytelenül kinevezett Batthyány-kormány uralmának.
A Dráva és a Mura összefolyásának közelében emelkedő Szentmihály-hegyet régen Légrádi-hegynek nevezték, ugyanis a Dráva túlpartján, már Horvátországban található Légrád szőlőhegye volt. A lapos tetejű magaslat tetején két nevezetes hely is van. Az északi részén áll a Szent Mihály-kápolna, a délin az 1848-as Fesztung nevű emlékhely, amit a szőlőhegy aljában kanyargó útról is könnyen észre lehet venni.

- Vonattal az őrtilosi vasútállomásig érdemes utazni, majd onnan gyalog juthatunk fel egy félórás sétával.

- A legegyszerűbben a hegy melletti közútról mászhatunk fel az emlékhelyhez. Az útról is jól látható a fent lobogó zászló, alatta egy rövid, cserébe viszont nagyon meredek, földbe mélyített lépcsősor kúszik fel az emlékhelyhez.
- Egy 20 perces sétával a Szent-Mihály kápolnától is elsétálhatunk ide a hegy lapos tetején át.

- Az út szélén, a Fesztung közelében lehet parkolni.
