Az iharosberényi Inkey-kastély parkjában hazai rekorder famatuzsálemek láthatók: legnagyobb törzskerületű cédrusunk teljes pompájában tör az ég felé, az egykori rekorder mamutfenyőnek viszont már csak kivágott törzsét vehetjük szemügyre.
Iharosberény központjában áll az Inkey család által építtetett kastély, amelyben napjainkban általános iskola üzemel. A kastély példás rendben tartott parkjában évszázados famatuzsálemek állnak. A legértékesebb fa az 547 cm-es törzskerülettel rendelkező himalájai cédrus, ami hazánk legnagyobb cédrusa, megelőzve a sokkal gyakoribb atlaszcédrusok legvaskosabb példányait is. Ez volt az otthona az ország egykori legnagyobb mamutfenyőjének is, mely 2015-ben halt el teljesen, a holtfát a fokozódó balesetveszély miatt 2018-ban ki is vágták. Földön fekvő törzsét körbejárva azonban még inkább átérezhetjük méreteit. A parkban található információs táblák segítségével megismerhetjük az Inkey család történetét, Iharosberény természeti, épített és kulturális értékeit.
Az iharosberényi Inkey család
Az Inkey család 1726-ban szerezte meg az iharosberényi birtokot, a kastélyt Inkey Gáspár 1750-ben építtetette, ekkor kezdődött meg a kastélypark kialakítása is, melybe a fákat Metzl Kamill uradalmi erdőgondnok telepítette. A kastélyt a 18. század végén tisztán barokk stílusúvá alakították át, benne egészen 1945-ig az Inkey család élt. A világháborúk alatt falai között katonakórház működött, 1950 óta általános iskolának ad otthont.
A kastélypark botanikai értékei
Az eredetileg 20 hektáros park területe napjainkra 4,8 hektárra csökkent, a két rekorder fán kívül így is számos értékes fa otthona. A kastély előtti tisztást többek között platánfa, hársfa, juharfa, tulipánfa és páfrányfenyő veszi körbe. A parkban sétálva találkozhatunk még méretes tiszafával, simafenyővel, erdei fenyővel valamint jelenleg is élő mamutfenyővel is, a nagyobb példány 680 centiméteres törzskerületével a második legnagyobb példány hazánkban.

- A körforgalom három oldalán lévő buszmegállók mindegyikéből jelzetlen utakon jutunk el a kastélyparkig: célozzuk meg a néhány méterre lévő körforgalmat, ahonnan a Hársfa utcába forduljunk be, majd néhány méter múlva, a kastélyt megpillantva forduljunk jobbra a kastélyparkba (200 m, szintemelkedés nélkül).
