Klapka Square is the central plaza of Komárno, named after General György Klapka, a key figure in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848–49. The square features his statue and serves as a focal point for the town’s history and civic life.

Originally part of a small lake forming the medieval city’s moat, the square has evolved over centuries. The north side once housed the town hall, which was damaged in a 1763 earthquake and later restored. Following a fire in 1848, the town hall underwent further renovations and expansions, including the addition of a new watchtower. A distinctive feature is the hussar figure in the tower window, dressed in 1848 attire, which appears every two hours from 10:00 to 16:00 to play a tune composed in honor of General Klapka. The square’s architecture and layout reflect Komárno’s layered history, blending medieval defensive structures with later civic developments.
