A moderately challenging half-day hike along beautiful trails through the Palatinate Forest, featuring numerous highlights
UFFBASSE! – Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
-
Fire & Smoking – Building fires, smoking, and barbecuing are strictly prohibited in the forest and must be avoided at all costs! This is the only way to prevent fires and the resulting extensive damage to nature and wildlife.
-
Be Considerate While Out and About – Always act with foresight, friendliness, and consideration toward everyone you meet along the way. This is especially important on farm roads, where winemakers, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends.
-
Nature Conservation – Stay on the designated trails and avoid unnecessary noise when out in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest so as not to disturb the rhythms of nocturnal animals.
-
Picnics & Trash - Remember to bring a trash bag with you and take your trash home with you. Use only the designated rest areas for breaks and picnics.
-
Keep Dogs on a Leash – Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will appreciate it.
We—your fellow visitors and nature—thank you!

Safety information
Hiking on nature trails and paths —Especially in the fall, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal uneven terrain, roots, rocks, or holes in the path. Even after thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches may break off. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural trails can become muddy and slippery in some sections. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. In some places, sure-footedness is required. You should expect trail obstructions of this kind when you go hiking. If you feel that certain sections of the trail are impassable for you, you should bypass them. Despite trail markings, we always recommend carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons, so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or an emergency, for example. Be sure to pay attention to trail closures and detours.Dangerous Situations — If an emergency arises, quick assistance is essential. And even though cell phones can transmit GPS signals, the traditional rescue points are often the quickest way to get help. These are located in areas that are easily accessible to emergency vehicles. Make a note of the locations marked with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return to one of these spots and provide the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, emergency responders will know where to find you.

Roadbook
The trail continues down into the Hainbach Valley to the next highlight: the Walddusche, a historic “cold-water spa” dating back to 1848. Go for it—under water that’s 8 to 12 degrees cold, you’ll pass the test of courage and be thoroughly refreshed in no time. The spring water flows here from May through October.
Parallel to the Hainbach, the tour climbs gently to the next place to stop for a break, the Landauer Hütte*, which is run by the Pfälzerwaldverein. After refueling and cooling off once more, the trail continues uphill to the launch site for the South Palatinate paragliders. If you’re lucky, you can watch them take off here, enjoying views over Annweiler and the trio of castles—Trifels, Anebos, and Münz.
Now it’s not far to the tour’s climax and absolute highlight: the Orensfels. The view over the vineyards, the Queich Valley, the Palatinate Forest, and the three castles—Trifels, Anebos, and Münz—is like a grand open-air movie in widescreen! Passing by the Kirschbaumhütte shelter, you’ll finally return to the starting point on a gentle, relaxed descent.
