A Tamás-kút stratégiai helyen, közvetlenül a Felsőtárkány és Lillafüred között kanyargó út mellett található. A Bükk azon kevés forrásainak egyike, amely még az aszályosabb időszakokban is aktív, így biztos frissítőpont lehet egy túra során, de autóval is érdemes megállni vizet vételezni.

Eltéveszteni meglehetősen nehéz a Tamás-kutat, mert két (róla elnevezett) buszmegállót, valamint egy (szintén róla elnevezett) turistaházat is találunk mellette. Ez utóbbi az egri Kárpát Egyesület tulajdona, és kisebb-nagyobb túracsoportok kedvelt szálláshelye. A hely népszerűsége nem véletlen, ugyanis a Bükk szívében, a fennsík alatt fekszik, alig 10 kilométerre Felsőtárkánytól, és jó pár jelzett turistaút is itt halad keresztül. Közülük az Egert Miskolccal összekötő Bükki Kéktúrát kell kiemelni, amelyhez egy jelvényszerző túramozgalom is kapcsolódik.

Jelenlegi állapotát 1972-ben nyerte el a forrás, ekkor építtette újjá a Mátra-Eger-Bükki Intéző Bizottság az akkor még Kis-Som-forrásként emlegetett víznyerő helyet. A forrás karsztvize iható, és nagy előnye, hogy egész évben csordogál, így biztos frissítőpont a bükki túrák során, annál is inkább, mert a közelében egy fedett (kerékpáros) pihenő is áll padokkal.

Tanösvényen fedezhetjük fel a környéket

Ha már a Tamás-kútnál járunk, és szeretnénk egy kicsit jobban is felfedezni a környéket, érdemes lejárnunk a forrástól induló, alig 7 kilométeres tanösvényt. Egy könnyű, családosoknak nagyon is ajánlott túrára számíthatunk, 350 méternyi szintemelkedéssel és néhány meredekebb szakasszal. A Bükki Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság által létrehozott Tamás-kúti tanösvény elvezet a környék karsztforrásaihoz – köztük az időszakos Imó-forráshoz –, valamint az egykori palabányászat helyszíneit is megnézhetjük rajta.

  • A forrás a Felsőtárkány, Tamás kútja buszmegálló közvetlen közelében van, de ide csak időszakosan, tavasztól őszig közlekednek járatok Eger, Felsőtárkány, Lillafüred vonalon.

  • Répáshutáról a K/ jelzésen kell elindulni délre, majd keletre. A S jelzést elérve jobbra, délkeletnek kell fordulni, aztán a becsatlakozó K jelzést kell követni jobbra, egészen a házig (6,5 km, 259 m szintemelkedés).
