A Balatonfenyvesi Gazdasági Vasút az 1950-es évek elején épült ki, a csisztai vonalat utolsóként, 1956-ban adták át, miután olajkutató fúrások eredményeként 42 fokos, ásványi anyagokban gazdag, hidrokarbonátos, kénes gyógyhatású meleg víz tört a felszínre, amire rövidesen fürdő épült. A 2021-ben újjáépített kétvágányos Csisztafürdő állomás (és az egész szárnyvonal) a közeli fürdőnek köszönheti tehát létét – és mind a mai napig elsősorban az ide tartó turisták szállnak itt le a szerelvényekről.

Csisztafürdő tömegközlekedéssel elsősorban a kisvasúttal érhető el. A helyközi autóbuszokról Buzsák, Csisztafürdő megállóhelyen leszállva a Virág utcán déli irányba indulva, kb. 350 méteres sétával érhető el a kisvasút állomása.
